Tips For Growers

Welcome to CriderAmericas. Check back here from time to time, as we'll post news and tips of interest to greenhouse growers.

Are You Ready For Spring?

Is your greenhouse ready for spring production? Do not forget to dedicate some time to preventative maintenance to make sure all the gears, vents and fans run smoothly when you need them most.

  • Examine your gearboxes for leaks, and check the oil level.
  • Lubricate the rack and pinion systems, possibly with Teflon grease. (This should be done twice a year.)
  • Test your torque and limit switches to be sure they are running correctly.
  • Perform any needed preventative maintenance on automation such as flat fillers, transplanters, soil mixers, seeders, and so on.

As Warm Weather Approaches...

It is important to remember to clean the sump and distribution system of your pad cooling systems to increase their service life. We recommend quarterly cleaning and flushing for the best results.

Empty the sump of water and silt and refill with clean water. Turn off the fans and manually turn on the pump to run a generous amount of fresh water over the pads for about 30 minutes. Open the ends of the water distribution pipes to flush out debris and replace the covers when done. If you're using silt collection, remove the plug and drain the system. Clean deposits from the pads with a hose, then empty the sump to remove the algae and dirt that was just rinsed off the pads. Disinfect the system by adding the proper amount of approved chemical. Check to make sure the bleed off is still functioning properly. Finally, refill with clean water and turn your system back on.

Save Money This Winter

To conserve energy this winter, make sure that your greenhouses are sealed properly. Inspect all greenhouse walls for holes and fix any damages promptly. This can save you lots of dollars this winter.
